Mixing Chamber
Two inlets, one exit, adiabatic: ṁ₁ + ṁ₂ = ṁ₃ and ṁ₁h₁ + ṁ₂h₂ = ṁ₃h₃. Fill what you know and the calculator solves the rest.

Frequently asked
- What balances does a mixing chamber use?
- Mass: ṁ₁ + ṁ₂ = ṁ₃. Energy (adiabatic, no work, KE/PE neglected): ṁ₁h₁ + ṁ₂h₂ = ṁ₃h₃. Two equations, so the calculator solves for two unknowns — for example both inlet mass flows when all three states are known.
- Can it mix steam streams?
- Yes — a classic example is mixing superheated steam with saturated liquid to produce saturated vapor. Each stream is solved from its own two properties, and the exit state closes from the combined balance.
