Nozzle

Steady-flow energy balance Q̇ − Ẇ = ṁ[(h₂ − h₁) + (V₂² − V₁²)/2000]. Give the inlet and exit states (two properties each) plus mass flow, and the calculator solves the remaining unknown — usually exit velocity.

Frequently asked

How does the nozzle calculator find exit velocity?
From the steady-flow energy balance Q̇ − Ẇ = ṁ[(h₂ − h₁) + (V₂² − V₁²)/2000]. For an adiabatic nozzle with no work, V₂ = √(2000·(h₁ − h₂) + V₁²) with h in kJ/kg and V in m/s — the 2000 converts kJ/kg to m²/s².
What if the energy balance gives V₂² < 0?
The calculator reports it: no real exit velocity exists for those inputs, which means the given enthalpies/heat/work are physically inconsistent.
Can I neglect inlet and exit velocities?
Yes — the 'Neglect velocities' checkbox zeroes both kinetic-energy terms, the standard textbook approximation for nozzles and diffusers.
